This week’s post is going to be very short and sweet. It’s hot, but rain is starting now so hopefully it will cool down. We finally made it to the creek yesterday, on the 4th of July, it was beautiful. Last weekend our camper was moved up to the top of the hill and a friend gave me 7 roosters. My plan is to butcher them as we eat them over the next few weeks. Billy has made jokes about us running a “no-kill” farm because up until now we have not harvested any livestock. I had an opportunity once with a rabbit who did not want to raise baby bunnies, after 3 chances, I just let her go. We have watched videos and talked to friends about it, so maybe tomorrow ….I will kill a rooster and make a delicious chicken dinner for the kids and myself. That is what people do who proclaim to be “homesteaders.” Without further explanation, here are a few photos from this week. I promise a more exciting post by the end of July 😬🤞🏻but hopefully next Wednesday I will have more to share. This week has been challenging but the country life we are aiming for will be worth all of the efforts and obstacles. Starting a farm from scratch with small children isn’t exactly like Charles and Caroline portrayed, but it has sweet, truly wholesome moments that I will treasure as long as I live.
